Leishmaniasis: A Growing One Health Challenge
Climate change, globalization, increased mobility, among other factors, contribute to the rise and spread of zoonotic diseases such as leishmaniasis.
As a trusted advisor, the veterinarian plays a key role in guiding pet owners on leishmaniasis prevention, tailoring recommendations according to where your patients live or whether they travel to endemic areas:
■ If he/she lives in or frequently travels to endemic areas
The annual vaccination protocol against leishmaniasis and adequate protection against sandfly bites is recommended1.
■ If he/she travels occasionally to endemic areas
It is advisable to protect him/her adequately against sandfly bites and to vaccinate well in advance.

Recommend the annual prevention plan together with vaccination.
